CIC bioGUNE celebrates with La Mecánica del Caracol the 15th anniversary of Radio Euskadi’s science outreach program

CIC bioGUNE joined the celebration of the 15th anniversary of La Mecánica del Caracol, Radio Euskadi’s science outreach program, reaffirming its commitment to the social dissemination of science. The center, a long-standing collaborator of the program, took part in the event with the presence of several of its researchers, accompanying Eva Caballero in a tribute to fifteen years of journalistic and outreach work in the service of knowledge.

CIC bioGUNE, member of BRTA, participated yesterday in the commemorative event marking the 15th anniversary of “La Mecánica del Caracol”, the science outreach program of Radio Euskadi directed and presented by Eva Caballero, held at the EITB Multibox hall in Bilbao.

The event brought together some of the program’s main collaborators, who offered talks, live experiments, and reflections on the value of science as a tool for understanding and transforming society. Representing CIC bioGUNE were researchers José M. Mato, Óscar Millet, Joaquín Castilla and Arkaitz Carracedo, all regular contributors to the program since its inception.

During the event, Eva Caballero expressed special thanks to José M. Mato for his continued support and collaboration over the program’s 15-year history.

Since its first broadcast on September 6, 2010, La Mecánica del Caracol has established itself as the only daily science radio program in Spain and as a benchmark in the dissemination of scientific, technological, and historical knowledge. CIC bioGUNE has been closely linked to the project from the beginning, sharing Radio Euskadi’s mission to bring science closer to society and to foster scientific culture among citizens.

The anniversary also served as an opportunity to recognize Eva Caballero’s outstanding contribution to science communication, for which she has received numerous awards, including the Concha García Campoy Award for Science Journalism (2023) and the Basque Journalism Award in the Environmental category (2021).

Through its participation in this celebration, CIC bioGUNE reaffirms its commitment to the social dissemination of scientific knowledge and to strengthening collaboration among media, academic institutions, and research centers to promote a more informed and critical society.
