More than 10,000 people support breast cancer research in Bilbao

Bilbao turned pink once again this Sunday for the tenth edition of the solidarity run against breast cancer “Marea Rosa, organized by the Acambi association in collaboration with Urtzi Gym. The event brought together over 10,000 participants who completed a five-kilometre route through the city, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to scientific research and breast cancer awareness.

Despite early-morning rain, participation was massive and enthusiastic, with all registrations sold out days before the event. The run started at the Guggenheim Museum esplanade and passed through the Euskalduna Bridge, Campo Volantín, and City Hall, before returning to the starting point. The day combined sport, solidarity, and visibility for a cause that affects millions of people worldwide.

A decade of collaboration in breast cancer research
CIC bioGUNE expresses its sincere gratitude to Acambi, Urtzi Gym, and all participants, as well as to the research team led by Dr. Maria del Mar Vivanco, for their ongoing dedication to breast cancer studies. Since 2014, Dr. Vivanco’s team has been carrying out innovative projects aimed at advancing knowledge of the disease and developing new therapeutic strategies.

This year, the event raised €56,000, which will be directed fully to breast cancer research projects at CIC bioGUNE. Over the past decade, the solidarity run has contributed nearly €800,000 to breast cancer research, establishing itself as a key event in Bizkaia’s calendar of charitable initiatives.

Activate, move, advance”: Sport and solidarity
The motto of this edition, “Activate, Move, Advance”, was intended to convey strength, motivation, and hope to all those affected by the disease. After the run, the day continued with Zumba and modern dance activities, creating an inclusive and participatory atmosphere that promotes health, awareness, and community engagement.

CIC bioGUNE, member of BRTA, reaffirms its commitment to excellence in research and greatly values the ongoing support of the community. Every registration, every step, and every gesture of solidarity contributes directly to advancing the fight against breast cancer and strengthening hope for thousands of people.
