Óscar Millet, appointed Vice President of Groupement AMPERE, the leading European organization in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

The appointment strengthens CIC bioGUNE’s international presence and recognizes its scientific excellence in the field of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.

Dr. Óscar Millet, Principal Investigator of the Precision Medicine and Metabolism Group at CIC bioGUNE, member of BRTA, has been appointed Vice President of Groupement AMPERE, the leading European scientific organization dedicated to the promotion and development of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and related disciplines.

This appointment represents a milestone for the scientific community in Spain, as it is the first time a person from the country has taken on a position of such responsibility within the governing board of the organization.

The Groupement AMPERE (Atomes et Molécules Par Études Radio-Électriques), founded in 1951 and established as a European organization in 1956, is an international association that brings together professionals from the fields of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), magnetic resonance imaging, optics, dielectrics, and related technologies. Based in Switzerland, it is currently the largest European organization dedicated to the advancement of magnetic resonance in physics, chemistry, and related sciences, with a global membership.

The society leads numerous high-impact scientific initiatives, including the EUROMAR congress, the Alpine Conference, the historic Zakopane School, as well as fellowship programs, awards, specialized bulletins, and high-level training activities. Since its inception, AMPERE has promoted international collaboration under the motto of its founder, Prof. René Freymann: “Se connaître, s’entendre, s’entraider” (to get to know each other, to understand each other, to help each other).

Dr. Óscar Millet conducts his scientific work at CIC bioGUNE applying NMR techniques to the structural and functional study of proteins associated with human diseases, with a particular focus on their role in metabolism and molecular diagnostics. His appointment as Vice President of AMPERE underscores the center’s commitment to excellence in biomedical research and its active engagement in international scientific networks.

CIC bioGUNE considers this appointment a recognition of Dr. Millet’s career and of the center’s position as a European benchmark in the development and application of advanced technologies in biomedicine.

About CIC bioGUNE
The Centre for Cooperative Research in Biosciences (CIC bioGUNE), member of the Basque Research & Technology Alliance (BRTA), located in the Bizkaia Technology Park, is a biomedical research organization conducting cutting-edge research at the interface between structural, chemical, molecular and cell biology, with a particular focus on generating knowledge on the molecular bases of disease, for use in the development of new diagnostic methods and advanced therapies.

About BRTA
BRTA is an alliance of 4 collaborative research centres (CIC bioGUNE, CIC nanoGUNE, CIC biomaGUNE y CIC energiGUNE) and 13 technology centres (Azterlan, Azti, Ceit, Cidetec, Gaiker, Ideko, Ikerlan, Leartiker, Lortek, Neiker, Tecnalia, Tekniker y Vicomtech) with the main objective of developing advanced technological solutions for the Basque corporate fabric.

With the support of the Basque Government, the SPRI Group and the Provincial Councils of the three territories, the alliance seeks to promote collaboration between the research centres, strengthen the conditions to generate and transfer knowledge to companies, contributing to their competitiveness and outspreading the Basque scientific-technological capacity abroad.

BRTA has a workforce of over 4,000 professionals, executes 22% of the Basque Country's R&D investment, registers an annual turnover of more than 300 million euros and generates 100 European and international patents per year.
