Cancer Talks “Hablemos de Cáncer”
An initiative for open dialogue between science and society
The “Hablemos de Cáncer” gatherings represent a scientific outreach initiative spearheaded by the Cancer Cell Signaling and Metabolism Lab at CIC bioGUNE. The primary objective of this initiative is to bridge the gap between cancer research and society, offering an educational, dynamic, and participatory platform. This initiative forms an integral part of the center’s broader strategy for raising public awareness and fostering scientific culture, in alignment with its commitment to excellence, innovation, and social impact.
The gatherings are structured as open-dialogue platforms, bringing together researchers, patients, clinical professionals, and the general public to address cancer from a multidisciplinary perspective. Through informative talks, roundtable discussions, personal testimonies, and laboratory visits, the initiative actively promotes public participation in the challenges and advancements of scientific research, facilitating a deeper understanding of cancer and the pivotal role of science in its management.
This initiative is also a key component of the PreMetaCan project, which is funded by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). The project aims to explore how tumor metabolism influences cancer progression and resistance to therapies. The project’s methodology, which incorporates advanced technologies such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), metabolomics, and translational oncology, underscores the center’s commitment to precision medicine, with the goal of providing more effective and personalized therapeutic solutions.
In this context, the “Hablemos de Cáncer” gatherings are establishing themselves as a fundamental platform for CIC bioGUNE’s efforts to promote open, collaborative, and transformative science. This initiative is fully aligned with the institution's objectives of enhancing global cancer survival rates and improving the quality of life for cancer patients.
