Representatives from the University of Santiago de Compostela and Xunta de Galicia visit CIC bioGUNE
CIC bioGUNE, member of BRTA, had the pleasure to welcome high-level representatives from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and the Xunta de Galicia to its facilities in Derio.
The delegation included:
- Javier Ferreira Fernández, Manager of the University of Santiago de Compostela
- Pilar Martínez García, Deputy General Manager for Technical Affairs at the University of Santiago de Compostela
- Irene Bonome Gradaílle, Deputy Director-General for Scientific and Technological Promotion in Universities at the Department of Education, Science, Universities, and Vocational Training of the Xunta de Galicia
During the visit, CIC bioGUNE’s Directors presented the centre’s strategic vision in biotechnology and life sciences, highlighting ongoing initiatives to foster excellence, innovation, and international competitiveness. The discussions focused on scientific policy, management strategies, and concrete actions to address the diverse challenges faced by research institutions.
The meeting took place in a highly collaborative atmosphere, allowing both institutions to exchange perspectives and explore potential avenues for cooperation. This visit reinforces CIC bioGUNE’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with universities and research organizations, promoting scientific collaboration, and advancing innovation in biomedical research.

The Centre for Cooperative Research in Biosciences (CIC bioGUNE), member of the Basque Research & Technology Alliance (BRTA), located in the Bizkaia Technology Park, is a biomedical research organisation conducting cutting-edge research at the interface between structural, molecular and cell biology, with a particular focus on generating knowledge on the molecular bases of disease, for use in the development of new diagnostic methods and advanced therapies.
