International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The Carracedo lab in CIC bioGUNE, committed with the dissemination of science in the International day of women and girls in science.

Today, February 11th, and for the coming week, members of the lab will engage in scientific and social dissemination in the framework of in the International day of women and girls in science. In the coming weeks, lab members will be speaking to more than 300 young students ranging 5-11 years old in various schools to highlight the importance of women in science.

  • Dr. Verónica Torrano will meet with 5-11 year old students from three different schools in Cantabria to share her experience and that of other women scientists in research.
  • Dr. Edurne Berra has actively participated in the organization of the dedicated seminars around this celebration in CIC bioGUNE, and will visit two schools to meet 5-year old kids to explain what being a researcher means.
  • Laura Camacho, Ainara Martinez y Ianire Astobiza are visiting a local school in their neighborhood to meet with 100 students and elaborate on the meaning of this date, and the women researchers that impacted on various aspects of science.
  • Natalia Martin will visit a local school in Salamanca to meet with more than 100 students and elaborate on the relevance of women in the past, present and future of research.
  • Amaia Zabala will visit a school in Bilbao and with explain to 60 10-11 year old students her work in the lab.

Social dissemination of research is instrumental to create a supportive and culturally engaged society.
