CIC bioGUNE successfully concludes the 6th edition of the annual Introductory Week for new doctoral candidates

CIC bioGUNE, member of BRTA, successfully concluded the 6th edition of the Introductory Week for new doctoral candidates. This comprehensive five-day experience was designed to provide recent doctoral aspirants with a profound understanding of the institution, its diverse research areas, platforms, and promote companionship among participants.

Coordinated by the Training Committee of CIC bioGUNE, the event took place from October 2nd to October 6th at the center's facilities. Throughout these five days, participants were introduced to various research areas, training programs, cutting-edge technology and specialized laboratories.

The event commenced with an inaugural session led by Jesús Jiménez-Barbero, Ikerbasque Professor and Scientific Director of the center, offering a comprehensive overview of the center and its mission. This was followed by presentations of the CIC bioGUNE training program and its regulation and the technology transfer unit. After that, the new doctoral candidates presented shortly their background and coming research and were introduced to the activity of the “Visionary Research Project” that they prepared in groups during the rest of the week.

During the week, the doctoral candidates had the opportunity to visit facilities and Technological Platforms, gaining valuable insights into the research conducted within structural biology, chemical biology, bioinformatics, prions, molecular & cell biology, and metabolomics laboratories. Principal Investigators of the CIC bioGUNE research groups provided firsthand knowledge about their ongoing research.

The event concluded in alignment with tradition, featuring the presentation of "Visionary Research Projects". Candidates presented imaginary, original and captivating projects, with the potential to obtain a substantial 1.5M€ grant over 4 years to explore their most intriguing research ideas. The projects showcased creativity and innovation, leading to the announcement of conclusions and awards to the deserving participants.

CIC bioGUNE, dedicated to advancing research and scientific development, considers this event a resounding success, providing new doctoral candidates with a profound understanding of the institution and its vast array of research opportunities.
