CIC bioGUNE joins Jakindari to promote science outreach in the Basque Country
The first annual Jakindari meeting in Getxo brought together over 60 organizations to advance an inclusive scientific culture, fostering citizen engagement and equitable access to knowledge through collaboration among research centers, universities, and cultural institutions.
CIC bioGUNE, member of BRTA, has strengthened its commitment to the social dissemination of knowledge by joining Jakindari, the new alliance promoted by the Basque Government’s Department of Science, Universities and Innovation to foster scientific culture in the Basque Autonomous Community. More than 60 entities, including universities, cooperative research centers (CIC), centers of excellence (BERC), foundations, museums, cultural centers, and communication companies, are already part of this initiative.
Last Wednesday, Getxo hosted the first annual Jakindari meeting at the Olatua building, where representatives from all member entities gathered. Under the motto “Crew for Science Outreach”, the meeting provided a space to share experiences, exchange best practices, and learn about successful initiatives such as Barcelona Ciencia Innovación and Fundación Descubre. This first meeting marks the beginning of a joint journey to strengthen the presence of science in society and promote more equitable access to knowledge.
Jakindari is part of the Department of Science, Universities and Innovation’s Social Knowledge Dissemination Project and has as its main objectives bringing science closer to citizens, raising scientific literacy, strengthening the connection between research and Basque society, promoting the use of Euskera in outreach activities, and ensuring inclusive science by reducing social gaps in access to knowledge. The alliance also seeks to generate synergies among participants, share resources and knowledge, and consolidate a more unified, visible, and innovative public presence for science.
Through its participation in Jakindari, CIC bioGUNE reinforces its commitment to open, participatory, and accessible science, promoting joint outreach activities and fostering collaboration with other scientific, cultural, and educational entities. One of the tools supporting this collaboration is the digital platform ZientziaKlik, which integrates the scientific and technological community’s outreach offerings and facilitates public access to events and scientific resources.
Additionally, the initiative includes calls for financial support to co-fund knowledge dissemination projects and a prize contest to recognize the most outstanding initiatives led by Jakindari member entities. For CIC bioGUNE, participating in these actions represents a further step in its mission to put research at the service of society and promote a future where science drives shared knowledge, innovation, and well-being for all people.
