Research Integrity and Scientific Misconduct: Ethical and Social Dimensions Research integrity and ethical behaviour are of the utmost importance for the advancement of science, whereas scientific misconduct is detrimental for research, undermines trust among scientists and damages the public image of science. This presentation will describe the principles in which responsible research and innovation are based and define misconduct mainly in terms of falsification, fabrication and plagiarism. The frequency, causes and impact of deviations from responsible conduct of research will be analyzed and the initiatives carried out at the institutional and international levels to promote research integrity will be discussed.
