0000-0002-8271-612XAna M. Aransay got a Bachelor’s degree in Biology (specialty: Fundamental Biology) at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 1992. During training and her PhD in Molecular Entomology (granted by a European training program and the Basque Government, respectively) in the Department of Clinical Bacteriology, Parasitology, Zoonoses and Geographical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Crete (Greece), under the supervision of Prof. Yannis Tselentis, she learned insect Taxonomy and key Molecular Biology techniques such as isoenzyme analysis, DNA cloning, DNA sequencing, PCR and PCR–RFLP, and the fundamentals of diagnosis and molecular characterization of parasite species for phylogeny and epidemiological studies. After receiving her PhD in 1999, she got two consecutive postdoctoral research fellowships from the Basque Government to carry out a project on the population genetics of Leishmania insect-vectors. Her postdoctoral research work was conducted from 1999 to 2004, first in the Department of Entomology at the Natural History Museum in London (UK), under the supervision of Dr. Paul D. Ready, and later, in the National Center for Microbiology, Institute of Health Carlos III of Madrid (Spain), under the supervision of Dr. Ricardo Molina. Since November 2004, she is responsible for the Platform for Genome Analyses of CIC bioGUNE (Derio, Spain), where the main objectives are the development of high-throughput technologies to provide services that allow the characterization of genomes from different points of view. In particular, this platform handles molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics analyses applied to the investigation of DNA variants at the whole genome level, the expression of coding and non-coding RNAs and the characterization of DNA methylation profiles, mainly for projects within the Biomedical field, but applicable to any other biological question
