0000-0002-8271-612XAna M Aransay obtained her BSc in Biology from the from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and her PhD from the Medicine of the University of Crete, Greece, under the supervision of Prof. Yannis Tselentis. During this period, she learnt all the key Molecular Biology techniques (isoenzymes, DNA cloning, DNA sequencing, PCR, PCR-RFLP, etc.) and the fundamentals of infectious disease diagnosis, species molecular typing, phylogeny and epidemiological studies.
After getting her PhD in 1999, Dr. Aransay was awarded two consecutive postdoctoral research grants from the Basque Country Government to work on a project focused on the population genetics of parasitic disease vectors. Initially, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Paul D. Ready at the Entomology Department of the Natural History Museum of London (UK) and later, she relocated to Madrid to continue her research at the National Centre of Microbiology of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, under the supervision of Dr. Ricardo Molina.
In 2004, Dr. Aransay joined CIC bioGUNE as the Genome Analysis Platform Manager to support internal users and offer collaborative research to external researchers. The platform's main objectives include developing high-throughput technologies to enable genome characterization. This involves investigating DNA variants at the whole-genome level, analyzing the expression of coding and non-coding RNAs, and profiling DNA methylation. While the primary focus is on biomedical projects, the platform's services are also applicable to a wide range of biological research questions.
