1st meeting of the Spanish Hypoxia Network (HypoxiaNet.es)

HypoxiaNET.es is an open initiative to all researchers (basic, clinical and industrial) with a common interest in the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms that mediate the responses to changes in oxygen availability. Hypoxia occurs in a wide range of physiological states and pathologies such as cancer, stroke, neurodegenerative, respiratory and inflammatory diseases. As the results of this research field may represent new opportunities for understanding and improving the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that are endemic in our society, the expectations of this consortium are far reaching.

The 1st meeting of the network has been organized by Dr Edurne Berra, group leader at CIC bioGUNE, aiming to promote discussion of ideas and results and to foster multidisciplinary approaches. The meeting, supported by the City of Bilbao, was held in the Bizkaia Aretoa on December 2 and 3.
