Researchers at the Structural Biology Unit and Genotyping Laboratory of CICbioGUNE are to participate in two different Consolider - Ingenio 2010 projects granted by the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Investigators from the CICbioGUNE's Structural Biology Unit will participate in the Consolider research project SICI (The Spanish Ionic Channel Initiative) included in the Ingenio 2010 programme, recently funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. Consolider projects constitute a new initiative that promotes high class research in fields of key interest. The aim of the SICI project is to gain insight in the composition, structure and role of signalling channel complexes in health and disease. Consolider projects constitute a new initiative, included in the Ingenio 2010 programme that promotes high class research in fields of key interest.

In addition, investigators from the CIC bioGUNE's Genotyping Laboratory will participate in the "Consolider - Ingenio 2010" research project COEDUCA (Cognition and Education, CSD2008-00048), The broader goal of this research will create specific recommendations for addressing the unique set of educational challenges and opportunities Spain currently faces, with the long-term goal of improving learning and educational systems. The research will characterize typical developmental patterns of children in Spanish schools and those of children with special needs (dyslexia and ADHD), by using socioeconomic, genetic, neural and cognitive-behavioural measures. A novel aspect of this project will examine the effects of attention and literacy training on cognitive and brain changes. This is a unique opportunity to study these central issues from an interdisciplinary perspective within the specific context of learners in our country.
