Inspiring stories from PROTEOSTASIS COST Action or how to boost your research career and make an impact

The COST Action PROTEOSTASIS led by Dr. Rosa Barrio (CIC bioGUNE), has elaborated a video summarizing the experience of the members of the network.

PROTEOSTASIS main objective is to facilitate research and collaborations in the fields of Ubiquitin/Proteasome, Ubiquitin-likes, autophagy and lysosomal systems in health and diseases. Started in April 2014 the Action includes more than 260 research groups in Europe, but also counts with the participation of research groups in the USA and South Korea.  During its implementation, the Action has organized 16 meetings, and 8 training schools. Additionally, the Action has funded more than 40 Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) for young researchers, besides boosting 7 translational projects.

The video features short testimonials of Action participants from different countries and institutions explaining how PROTEOSTASIS has helped them in their research careers and contributed to the broader topic of understanding proteins. We would like to outline some inspiring quotes from the video:

"For postdocs and students, a network is an excellent asset in their career , thanks to the possibility to get funds to travel from one lab to another, and possibly to find a new lab for the next step in their career." Sebastien Leon, Institut Jacques Monod - CNRS - Université Paris Diderot, France (Working Group 1 leader).

"What I liked most was the training school because it was very interactive, and apart from highly educational lectures, we also had practical laboratory sessions. As a PhD student, I have learnt a lot of useful techniques for my project." Ane Olazabal, Universidad del País Vasco / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, Spain (training school participant).

"I absolutely recommend becoming a member of PROTEOSTASIS. Its strength is a widespread network of scientific groups with the same interests but different specialisations. That makes it possible to initiate collaborations quickly and efficiently." Raik Wagner, Umea University Sweden (STSM beneficiary).

"I had a short-term scientific mission of one month at  the laboratory of Professor Cathrine Lindon at the University of Cambridge, where I had access to cutting-edge tools." Mara Esposito, VUB- Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Belgium (short-term scientific mission beneficiary & training school participant).
