Nucleoplasmin, a histone chaperone

Dr. Sonia Bañuelos Rodríguez

Nucleoplasmin, a histone chaperone Histone chaperones modulate chromatin compactness level, and hence DNA accessibility. Nucleoplasmin (NP), one of these chaperones, decondenses sperm chromatin at fertilization, and supplies H2AH2B histones for the assembly of somatic-type nucleosomes. We have explored NP activation mechanism, characterized, by calorimetry and small angle X-ray scattering, NP interaction with different ligands and studied complex formation between NP and importin.
