Seminar
DNA replication and cell division in the third domain of life
Prof. Stephen Bell
The talk will discuss our findings on the structure-function relationships in the archaeal DNA replication apparatus. In addition, our recent data on the identification of the Sulfolobus cell division apparatus will be presented. Remarkably, this prokaryotic cell uses a cell division machinery that is related to the eukaryotic ESCRT system. This finding provides insights into the early evolution of cell division, sub-cellular trafficking and viral budding processes.
