DNA replication and cell division in the third domain of life

Prof. Stephen Bell

DNA replication and cell division in the third domain of life The talk will discuss our findings on the structure-function relationships in the archaeal DNA replication apparatus. In addition, our recent data on the identification of the Sulfolobus cell division apparatus will be presented. Remarkably, this prokaryotic cell uses a cell division machinery that is related to the eukaryotic ESCRT system. This finding provides insights into the early evolution of cell division, sub-cellular trafficking and viral budding processes.
