Medical microrobots for Infertility and Drug Delivery
Mariana Medina Sánchez
There is increasing interest in utilizing medical microrobotics for in vivo infertility treatments and targeted drug delivery. These innovative methods aim to improve the precision of sperm and embryo delivery in assisted reproductive technologies, potentially enhancing the success rates of fertility treatments. In addition to their role in infertility, the exceptional motility and non-proliferative nature of sperm make them promising biocompatible carriers for therapeutic agents in gynecological cancer treatments. In this presentation, I will showcase our contributions, focusing on how various sperm microstructures and species can be employed to deliver anticancer drugs and tumor microenvironment regulators locally. Recent advancements in managing sperm transport and drug delivery using sperm swarms, along with imaging techniques like ultrasound and photoacoustics, reveal exciting potential for future in vivo applications in both infertility management and cancer therapy
