Targeting myeloid cells for immunotherapy
David Sancho Madrid
Professor Sancho Madrid is group leader at the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (cnic) where he studies the bases for the innate immune cell detection of danger signals derived from microbial pathogens and tissue damage, and the identification of novel strategies for immunotherapy. He has been awarded both the starting and consolidator ERC grants and is currently the chair of the Biomedicine scientific area of the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI). He has made seminal contributions that have helped elucidate the mechanisms underlying the recognition of specific antigens and their crosspresentation. His work has also been focused on the intricacies of the innate immune response, with a particular focus on the metabolic status of these cells and its consequences in both the short and the long-term responses of both dendritic cells and macrophages.
