A comprehensive research framework adapted to the boom-and-bust context of human complex disease genomics

Urko M. Marigorta

A comprehensive research framework adapted to the boom-and-bust context of human complex disease genomics In the last 15 years, we have witnessed a frenetic pace of discoveries in human complex disease genomics. The expectation is that this knowledge will be the foundation for implementing precision medicine approaches. However, the promise that genomic-based information will be useful in the clinic has been a constant for several decades. In our lab, we analyze genomic profiles of patients to improve our understanding of disease, with a focus on inflammatory conditions. In the seminar, I will provide an overview of the current state of the "genomics for precision medicine" ambition, using highlights from our research program to discuss potential solutions for some of the main challenges ahead.
